Best Summer Fabrics to Keep You Cool in 2025

When it comes to hassle-free fabrics, linen is often the first that comes to mind – and for good reason.

Made from long natural fibres, linen is not only exceptionally soft but also highly breathable and absorbent, making it perfect for summer.

Plus, it looks effortlessly stylish right off the hanger with a naturally crinkled appearance, so there’s no need to iron. That said, linen isn’t the only fabric that offers the same easy care appeal.

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson even admitted on BBC Radio 2 that she hates ironing and it’s the one household chore she will never do.

Martina Cherry, style expert at curated fashion site endource, shares four fabric compositions, other than linen, that are perfect for those who want to give ironing a skip!

Best fabrics for hot weather 2025

Tencel (Lyocell)

“Tencel is not only wrinkle resistant, but it’s also a quick-drying and biodegradable fabric that becomes softer with each wear. Lightweight and cool to the touch, due to its absorbency, it effectively wicks away sweat and other moisture from your body. This wonder fabric is most commonly used in dresses and trousers.”

Recycled Polyester (rPET)

“An increasingly popular fabric for activewear, recycled polyester is another wrinkle-resistant fabric that is also super durable and lightweight, keeping you dry and comfortable during intense workouts or outdoor activities.

Bamboo Viscose

“Known for its softness and durability, bamboo fibres are longer and stronger than many other natural options like cotton, making them naturally resistant to creasing and wrinkling. The fabric also has antibacterial properties and provides natural UV protection, so it’s a great choice for those with sensitive skin. Bamboo viscose is most commonly found in underwear and sleepwear.”

Merino Wool

“Both lightweight and naturally wrinkle-resistant, merino wool is great for those looking for an easy care, low-maintenance fabric. Despite being wool, Merino keeps you cool in the heat thanks to its excellent moisture and temperature regulation and is typically used in base layer shirts, blouses, and even tank tops.”
