How to Create a Luxury Christmas Charcuterie Spread for Festive Hosting
With the rise of the dinner party and the growing home café trend on TikTok, particularly popular among Gen Z, festive hosting at home is expected to surge this season1.
Experts predict this movement will only continue to grow, as younger generations embrace cosy gatherings over nights out. David Balko, CMO and kitchen expert at Wren Kitchens and Bedrooms, notes, “We’re seeing a real shift toward people investing in social spaces as they entertain at home, and Christmas is the perfect moment to lean into that warm, inviting atmosphere.”

Set the scene with lighting
Creating the right ambience is key to elevating your charcuterie evening. David advises, “Opt for low lighting with warm pendant fixtures that gently highlight your dining area, kitchen breakfast bar and spread.”
Candles positioned around the kitchen will add a soft, comforting glow as the evening rolls in, helping your guests settle into a relaxed, festive mood.
“Lighting makes all the difference, so ensure you use warm, gentle illumination which can transform even the simplest gathering into something magical,” David adds.
Entertaining spaces
An L-shaped breakfast bar offers an ideal sociable set-up, allowing guests to gather comfortably while grazing from your charcuterie board.
David shares, “If your kitchen doesn’t allow for this layout, the concept works just as well in a galley kitchen. Simply ensure you have enough clear worktop space. You can also introduce a small square island if the room allows or position your board directly on your dining table.”
Christmas entertaining is all about bringing people together, whether that’s around a breakfast bar, a compact island or a beautifully dressed table.

How to create a charcuterie centrepiece
Wren recently spoke to interiors influencer Home with Mari, about how to curate a show-stopping charcuterie centrepiece.
The base of your board.
Mari recommends beginning with a wooden board as your foundation. “If you have one shaped like a tree, even better, as it instantly adds a festive touch,” she says.
She advises trimming the outer edges of the board with fresh rosemary, which not only adds visual interest but also releases a gorgeous seasonal scent that fills the room.
Showstopping centrepieces
To create charming edible features, start by cutting different cheeses, such as Brie, Camembert or cheddar, into triangles. Add a tomato to the pointed end and secure it with a toothpick to create Rudolph’s iconic red nose, then finish with googly eyes and pretzels as antlers.

For a Camembert Santa, take a round of Camembert and trim the top half of the rind to help differentiate Santa’s face and beard. Use the rind off-cuts to shape a moustache. Fold and stack cold meats onto toothpicks and insert them into the Camembert to create Santa’s hat. Finish with two small pieces of olive to form his eyes. These two festive characters become the centrepieces of your board, adding whimsy and creativity to your table.
Bulking out your board
Once your central characters are in place, begin arranging additional elements such as cheese triangles, or use a gingerbread-man cookie cutter to create mini cheese gingerbread men. Add cheese wrapped in Parma ham or chorizo, alongside crackers, grapes, pickled onions and small jars of chutney.
Mari notes, “The key is to mix textures and flavours, so creamy, crunchy, salty, sweet, and to place everything thoughtfully so the board looks abundant without feeling overcrowded.”
Finishing touches
Finish your board by sprinkling on candy canes and mini gingerbread biscuits to balance sweet and savoury notes. If you’re using a tree-shaped board, top it with a cheese star made using a small cookie cutter for the final festive flourish.
