Rain Won’t Stop Brits from BBQing This Bank Holiday, Research Reveals

With cloud and rain forecast across much of the UK, this bank holiday, new research has found more than half (53 percent) of hardy Brits insist that the threat of rain would not stop them getting the barbie out.

In fact, one in eight (86 percent) of those surveyed insist, you haven’t experienced a proper British summer until you’ve BBQ’d in the rain.

And the HARDIEST BBQers are based in NORWICH, where as many as 72 percent prefer to remain in front of the barbie even though it is lashing down, according to the poll of 2,000 Britons, by from Spar wholesaler, AF Blakemore.

Residents in Edinburgh came second in the list of gritty grillers, with 69 percent happy to grill in the rain, followed by Cambridge (60 percent), Sunderland (58 percent), Aberdeen (58 percent) and Swansea (55 percent).

Love it or hate it, 92 percent agree that despite the ups and downs, a Great British summer is magical.

BBQ in the rain

Sarah Ellis, Group Marketing Director, AF Blakemore said: “The research shows that nothing beats a Great British summer, whether it’s sparking up the barbecue, getting away in the caravan for a few days or even hearing the rain while you’re in a tent. The one thing that is clear is it is all about appreciating those magic moments.

The average Brit spends £71 when hosting a BBQ to ensure there is a good spread.

When it comes to who is in charge – Dads (46 percent) are still the grill master’s – with 41 percent of those polled saying that no-one should interfere with them.

Sunny weather (68 percent), good friends and family around (66 percent), a wide range of food (64 percent), a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks (50 percent), a great playlist (32 percent) and a plethora of meat and veggie options (31 percent) are considered must-haves for a perfect barbie.
