Modern Eastern Mediterranean restaurant Brother Marcus has launched their fifth site on the 4th of September, this time in the heart of London’s Covent Garden, with a roof terrace and its much-loved dishes that use flavours from across Greece, Turkey and Cyprus.
Known across the capital for their Eastern Med take on brunch and small plates, their Covent Garden location will be their biggest site yet and have two terraces overlooking The Yard, between Mercer Street and Upper St Martin Lane. Weekdays at the two-floor venue will start with breakfast before moving into all-day mezze, whilst at the weekend, brunch will be the order of the day, served until 4pm when the menu changes to sharing plates.
Started by three friends Alex, Arthur and Tasos in 2016 – with current restaurants in Angel, Borough Yards, South Ken and Spitalfields Market – the menu takes inspiration from Tasos’ Cretan heritage, using recipes passed down through generations.
Morning dishes will include their now famed sweet potato fritters, smokey shakshuka, fried chicken rosti and breakfast pitas with fillings of labneh, Kasundi jam, kofta, eggs, spinach and feta. Later in the day sharing plates merge tradition with Brother Marcus’ fresh, seasonal and imaginative approach, such as:
Pan-fried halloumi, watermelon jam & mint
Crispy aubergine skewer, shatta herb sauce, labneh & grape molasses
Pan seared bream, almond & dill gremolata
Roasted chicken, sun-dried tomato harissa, fresh herb salad, labneh & nigella seeds
Baklava sandwich, pistachio ice cream & honey cream
Tahini cheesecake, kataifi, thyme poached rhubarb
They will also launch the site with Marcus’ Choice, a specially curated set menu and a pre-theatre menu of the rip & dip platter + 2 mezze dishes for £25 from 5-7pm Tuesday to Friday.
The new space will have two bars – one on each floor – with high seating and will retain the signature Brother Marcus flavours using Eastern Mediterranean herbs, spices and liquors, as well as a long list of Greek wines. Cocktails on the menu include Rakomelo Tai, their Greek take on a classic Mai Tai, Kalamata Martini with olive-infused gin and a Helios Spritz with Quiquiriqui mezcal, spiced mango syrup, lemon juice & pineapple soda. They will also have a selection of non-alcoholic cocktails, coffee, juices and smoothies.
Finch Interiors – who designed the Borough Yards and Spitalfields sites – have been brought on to redesign the space with an open kitchen and a consistent feel to their other venues. Loosely arranged terracotta tiles, muted earthy tones and artisan ceramic plates will line the walls, while vivid green plants will sit alongside woven, wicker, wood and rattan.
