98% of Brits enjoy at least one cup of tea a day, be it a classic builder’s brew, a refreshing Earl Grey, or a calming chamomile before bed. But, whilst tea is undoubtedly part of our cultural DNA, how many of us truly appreciate the calming properties it has to offer, especially when it comes to managing everyday stress?

Tea specialist and director of Char Teas, Stuart Hazeldine, says that beyond the comfort of a warm mug in hand, many teas contain natural compounds that can ease tension, support mental clarity, and help us find a moment of stillness in an otherwise hectic day.

“Tea has a remarkable way of bringing balance to both body and mind,” says Stuart. “For instance, green and black teas contain an amino acid called L-theanine, which has been shown to promote relaxation by increasing calming brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine. When paired with a small amount of caffeine, it can create a gentle lift in mood and focus, calm but clear-headed.”
