Savoo has analysed monthly Google search volume for takeaway-related terms, revealing the UK’s ultimate favourite takeaways, and which cities are searching for them the most.
They’ve also revealed which cities offer the widest selection of takeaway and delivery options for some of the most mouth-watering cuisines.

Chinese is the UK’s favourite takeaway cuisine, with 41% of all takeaway searches being for Chinese food
The research reveals that Chinese food is the UK’s favourite takeaway cuisine, with Brits searching for Chinese takeaway restaurants an average of 44,470 times each month. This amounts to 41% of all monthly Google searches for takeaways.
Pizza comes next with a total of 16,900 Google searches each month, accounting for 16% of all searches for takeaways. Meanwhile, Indian takeaway ranks as the third most popular with Brits searching Google for Indian takeaway spots an average of 13,970 times every month, which is 13% of all takeaway-related searches.

Edinburgh is the UK’s takeaway capital, with residents Googling takeaways 6,000+ times each month
Scotland’s capital ranks as the city that loves takeaways the most when analysing search volume per 1,000 residents, with takeaway lovers making 6,010 searches each month across all cuisines. This works out as 12.6 searches per 1,000 of the city’s 476,626 population.
Bristolians love takeaways almost as much, with every 1,000 people Googling takeaway spots 11.4 times each month adding up to a total of 4,880 searches. Newcastle upon Tyne follows in third place, where there are 10.5 takeaway searches made each month for every 1,000 Geordies, or 2,930 in total.

Portsmouth and Stoke offer the largest number of delivery and collection options respectively
Looking at the proportion of restaurants offering pick-up or delivery options for some of the UK’s favourite cuisines including Chinese, pizza and Indian food, 44% of Portsmouth’s takeaway restaurants offer a delivery service, making it the best city to have a delicious comfort meal delivered to your door. This is followed by Plymouth (43%) and Wakefield (41%).
Meanwhile, three quarters of Stoke’s takeaway restaurants offer collection (75%), making it the city with the best selection of takeaway pick-up options. Wolverhampton ranks next with 65% and Plymouth appears again, this time in third place with 63% of the coastal city’s takeaway restaurants also delivering.
