10 Expert-Approved Products to Tackle Coughs, Colds & Summer Bugs
We’ve made it through the depths of winter and now, summer is on our doorstep. Think long, warm days spent outside, enjoying the sunshine. Unfortunately, not everyone feels the same way. For many, summer brings with it coughs, colds and a number of frustrating allergen-related symptoms which can get in the way of daily life.
Over half (55%) of the nation have had a cough within the last two months and 56% have had a cold in the last two months, whilst a third (35%) of Brits claim that their allergies are worse in the summer according to Puressentiel (uk.puressentiel.com)[1] – the brains behind the evidence backed plant-based health products for everyday wellness needs. In fact, 32% of Brits suffer from hay fever, while 18% have asthma, which can be triggered by various factors including allergies, such as pollen[2]. A sixth of Brits have a dust allergy, while one in ten are allergic to pets.
Dr Tim Bond, natural health specialist and researcher from the Puressentiel expert hub adds: “Annoying as these summer ailments may be, they’re also stopping Brits from simply going outside. A quarter (25%) of Brits have skipped exercising outdoors due to allergies and a fifth (20%) say that it stops them from going to parks or green spaces.”
This is because 50% of sufferers don’t want to make their allergies worse, 35% lack any energy because of their allergies and 33% say nasal congestion stops them from exercising outdoors.
Dr Tim Bond explains: “Seeing as nearly half (46%) of Brits feel less inclined to exercise when the weather is cold or rainy, while 35% say they don’t want to exercise when the nights are dark, it makes sense that summer is the time when many Brits up their movement and activity levels. We also know the impact that a lack of movement has on people. Over half (51%) say they feel happy after making the effort to be more active, 35% admit to having more energy and 26% feel invigorated.”
On a day without being active, Brits are feeling negative. In fact, four in ten (40%) feel lazy, 32% say they feel tired, 32% are lethargic and 27% admit to feeling annoyed with themselves!
“So, it’s sad to see that so many Brits are having to skip their outdoor exercise during summer because of coughs, colds and allergies,” adds Dr Tim Bond.
