The Spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel Spa Manager, Kate Lake, shares the top wellbeing benefits of dry flotations and treatment recommendations
Despite being a spa concept originating from around 50 years ago, Flotation Therapy has had a resurgence in popularity over the last few years with many using the experience as a stress management tool. The Spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel’s Spa Manager, Kate Lake, shares her knowledge of the experience and its wellbeing benefits.
“Traditional float therapy uses an enclosed space filled with water and a large quantity of Epsom Salts to allow the floating effect, with the experience intended to deeply nourish and remove toxins. However dry flotation, despite the name suggesting, is completely different with the experience placing a focus on pure relaxation of the muscles and joints.”
How does it work?
During dry flotation therapy, guests lie peacefully in the soft embrace of a dry membrane. Imparting a feeling of weightlessness, to simulate zero-gravity, this allows troubles to float away while keeping guests totally dry. In some dry flotation experiences, gentle vibrations will massage the body to release muscle tension and further a transcendent state.
What are the benefits?
Unsurprisingly, there are many benefits of a dry flotation – some which may not be known! The main takeaway for spa-goers is the ability to help enable deep and healthy sleep patterns. As the experience invites guests to float away in a state of tranquillity, this can energise the body and clear the mind.
From a physical perspective, dry flotation helps to aid in a speeded recovery time from physical exercise, increase endorphins, reduce blood pressure and improves circulation.
Experiences to try
