Make Your Home Look Expensive on a Budget

If you want to enhance the appearance of your home but don’t have a pile of money to do so, then keep reading!

Not all home improvements need to be expensive. In fact, it’s often the simplest changes that can make a home look expensive on a budget.

Zara O’Hare, an interior design expert from Land of Rugs, has revealed 9 tips to make your home look expensive, all without breaking the bank.

1. Choose Furniture with Character

Instead of having all your furniture perfectly matching, adding some character to your living space can create a more visually appealing and expensive look.

To achieve a truly distinctive space, consider blending antiques with more contemporary finds.

“Resist the urge to choose furniture made of the same wood or tone when decorating with wood, as this can result in a visually flat room.

Instead, opt for pieces that feature subtle color variations to achieve a more refined and polished appearance,” Zara advises.

2. Declutter Your Home

When decorating a space, it’s common to get carried away and purchase numerous photo frames, small plant pots, and other decorative items.

However, the end result often appears chaotic.

“To elevate the appearance of your home and give it a more luxurious feel, a significant change you can make is eliminating clutter.

Simplifying your living room, kitchen, or bedroom by removing clutter can enhance the expensive look of your home, and the best part is that it comes at no cost,” the interior expert explains.

3. Add Granite Or Marble

Upgrade your countertops by replacing laminate surfaces with high-end options like marble or granite.

While laminate flooring doesn’t significantly affect home value, countertops are an area where people seek quality, so investing in attractive and durable materials can be a wise choice to avoid the need for future replacements.

“Enhance the luxurious feel of your home by incorporating accessories made from premium materials.

For example, placing a marble tray on your coffee table or using a gold candle snuffer can add an expensive touch to your house,” says Zara.

4. Choose Statement Lightning

An essential component of an expensive-looking interior is a chandelier, which doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive.

Chandeliers are not limited to period-style homes; both modern and traditional houses can benefit from the instant elegance they bring.

“To achieve an expensive look in a living room, a grand chandelier is a great choice.

Not only does it add style, but it also directs attention upward, accentuating the room’s height and creating an illusion of more space and brightness,” the expert says.

5. Mix Your Textiles

To create a luxurious look in your interiors, you can introduce sumptuous and exquisite fabrics through your soft furnishings and accessories.

You can add depth and style to a room by layering different textile textures with pillows and throw blankets.

“Create a sophisticated look for your home by mixing various textiles, such as leather, linen, velvet, cotton, and wool.

For example, velvet and bouclé are excellent fabric choices that can elevate the premium feel of your home,” explains Zara.

6. Add a Luxury Rug

Rugs are a highly effective design element that can instantly transform any room, regardless of your budget.

Whether you want to add a vibrant accent colour or introduce pattern and texture to a neutral scheme, rugs offer a practical and stylish solution.

“Rugs add texture and dimension, and can instantly elevate the appearance of your home, creating a more expensive look.

Opt for oversized rugs that create a sense of grandeur. Additionally, choose materials that are durable and stain-resistant,” the expert added.

7. Rearrange Furniture

Maximizing your space by arranging the layout of the furniture is a cost-effective way to enhance the appearance of any room, adding a touch of grandeur.

“Rearrange your furniture by moving sofas or chairs away from the walls.

Use artwork as a focal point, as this can create a more captivating and expensive-looking space without any additional cost,” says the expert.

8. Add Window Treatments

Adding curtains, or changing the existing ones, can completely transform a room.

While some may underestimate the importance of window dressings compared to other furniture, their importance cannot be overstated.

“Curtains and blinds have a substantial impact on any space.

Choose full-length curtains to create a custom and luxurious feel in your space.

Opt for wide curtain panels with ample fabric to create elegant folds, adding a luxurious touch to your window treatments,” Zara says.

9. Don’t Forget About Interior Doors

You can elevate the appearance of every door and drawer in your home by adding stylish door plates and thoughtful handles.

These small details make your home look more expensive, which shows your investment in the finer elements of design.

“Upgrade your interior doors from being solid and mundane. Choose door handles that complement your interior theme.

For a modern look, copper or silver handles can bring vibrancy to the room. Opting for real metal door handles adds genuine value to the overall interior,” the expert recommends.
