With searches for ‘weather in alton towers today’ trending on Google and ‘weather in chessington world of adventures’ +200% in the last 30 days, it’s clear some of us are hesitant to commit to a day at the theme parks with the recent rainy weather.
However, the theme park experts at AttractionTickets.com have shared why a rainy day is actually a great day to visit plus they share their top tips for keeping dry and embracing the rain on days out this summer…
- Don’t take an umbrella
Contrary to standard rainy day advice, bringing an umbrella to the theme park will actually be of very little use as health and safety measures mean you won’t be allowed to take it on any rides.
One thing you don’t want is extra belongings to lug around with you and find storage for while you’re on the rides – the fewer belongings the better.
- Pick a long waterproof to protect you from wet seats
To keep you dry in the wet weather, it’s advisable to wear a lightweight waterproof. As you’ll be sitting down on rollercoaster rides for most of the day, we’d recommend choosing to wear a lightweight waterproof layer that falls below your waist as most ride seats are likely going to be a little damp.
- Rainy days mean less queues
Live queue time data reveals that average crowd levels at Alton Towers were 10% fewer1 in July this year compared to the same period last year when the sun was shining.
So, if you don’t mind getting a little bit wet, the rain might actually just save you queuing for popular rides such as Wicker Man at Alton Towers, which would normally have an average queue time of 48 minutes.2
- Make the most of indoor rides during heavy downfalls
Before you make your trip to the theme park, pay attention to the weather forecast to help you carefully plan your day around the rain.
If there are heavier showers expected throughout the day, make the most of the indoor rides and attractions that are available such as The Curse at Alton Manor at Alton Towers Resort, the SEA LIFE centre at Chessington World of Adventures, or step into the Black Mirror Labyrinth at Thorpe Park.
- Get your pram prepped for the weather
David Abbott, Director of Marketing at Silver Cross adds: “You can still enjoy a rainy day at a theme park with your tot as long as you’re equipped with everything you need to tackle the weather and that the items you’re packing can enter the park you’re going to.
“You want to make sure you also have the rain cover for your stroller packed and if it’s going to be a particularly long and warm day, an attachable snack tray with a water beaker can come in handy to make sure your little one has everything they need – saving you time searching through your snack bag!”
