‘Laser therapy’ is currently at Breakout on UK Google Trend data, seeing a huge 70% increase in search traffic in the past month alone. Here, Lumenis Ambassador, Dr Saleena Zimri, explains laser rejuvenation, and it’s benefits.
What is a laser facial?
“Laser resurfacing is a facial rejuvenation procedure that uses a laser to improve the skin’s appearance, or treat minor facial flaws. Laser resurfacing can lessen the appearance of fine lines in the face. It can also treat loss of skin tone and improve your complexion. Unlike a topical facial, where an aesthetician will use cleansers, exfoliators, serums, creams to rejuvenate the skin, a laser facial uses light energy to reach the deeper layers of the skin. The laser beam destroys the outer layer of the skin and at the same time heats the underlying skin, which stimulates collagen production over time, resulting in better skin tone and texture.”
Who is a laser facial suitable for?
“As we age, our texture and tone can change. Laser treatments are perfect for anyone who wishes to address the early signs of ageing and is seeking noticeable results for pigmentation, age or sun spots, fine lines, and overall skin appearance.”
Can I have a Laser Facial Anywhere?
“Laser skin rejuvenation is primarily used on the face, neck, chest and hands as these areas typically tend to show the first signs of ageing.”
What are the benefits?
“Laser treatments provide complete skin rejuvenation solution that empowers patient’s with remarkable results to address a wide range of ageing skin concerns like sun spots, fine lines, acne scars, and uneven texture and skin tone in one treatment session.”
Is a Laser Facial Painful?
“Laser skin rejuvenation may feel like the skin is being pinched slightly. However, a numbing cream would typically be applied before treatment, to ensure a comfortable experience.”
How Long does a treatment take?
“It varies depending on which area you are having treated, so allow between 30-45 minutes for each session. There is no downtime or recovery required, so you can get right back to work, or play.”
What Can I expect After a Laser Facial?
“It’s normal for the skin to look a little pink, or even for some slight swelling to appeal. This typically will disappear within 24 hours. Following a laser facial, you should moisturise with a thick moisturiser, which will help to reveal a smoother, new layer of skin with improved texture and tone. It’s important to avoid the sun for around 4 weeks afterwards, as your skin is more sensitive and susceptible to UV damage.”
What Treatment Would You Recommend?
