If you’re looking for a new way to elevate your Christmas cocktails this year, TikTok has delivered yet another must-try festive hack.
The latest trend has been dubbed “snowglobe drinks” where users are turning simple beverages into aesthetic Christmas mocktails with the clever use of festive garnish. Most commonly, people are freezing sprigs of rosemary into the bottom of the glass to symbolise the Christmas tree, alongside cranberries and even edible flowers to add more flare and create a bubbly effect that dances in your drink like a snowglobe.
Healthy drinks experts at DASH Water have predicted this could become one of the biggest drinks trends of the festive season, highlighting how easy and fun it is to create at home.
Georgie Bolton-Carter, Head of Brand at DASH Water comments,
“Not only is this trend entertaining and simple to create, but it can also help to use up Christmas leftovers to avoid food waste throughout the season. If you consider which flavours complement your favourite drinks, you can create a delicious beverage with just a few extras.”
The experts at DASH Water have highlighted four alternative ways to add more stylish festive magic to your drinks this Christmas.
Berry Burst
If you have leftover fruit this Christmas, try DASH’s no waste ice cube recipes.
Place berries such as cranberries, raspberries, or pomegranate seeds into an ice cube tray and sprinkle with rosemary leaves and fill to the top with water.
Once frozen, simply place a few into your glass and pour over some flavoured sparkling water to watch the bubbles bring the ice cubes to life. The experts say that lemon flavoured sparkling water will complement nicely with the fruity burst from the raspberry and the aromatic flavour of the rosemary.
Citrus Twists
If you have delicate hands, why not try creating your own citrus twists? Oranges are a classic Christmas flavour and when paired with the sweet juicy flavours of peach, will create a delicious fresh and fruity taste.
To create your own citrus twists, the experts at DASH Water advise using a sharp peeler to create long curls of orange zest. Once peeled, curl the skin in your fingers and squeeze to help it hold its shape. This dainty garnish can be dropped into the top of a drink or elegantly pierced with a cocktail stick and placed on the side of a glass.
Candied Slices
If you’re planning to enjoy a warming glass of mulled wine this Christmas, the experts recommend making your own stylish garnish to add an aesthetic touch.
Using leftover apple or pear slices, brush them lightly with water and dip in sugar before leaving them to dry. This will create a frosty look. Either float them in mulled wine or seasonal cider, or place on the rim of a champagne flute.
Nutty Crunch
For creamier drinks like eggnog, try your hand at making a crunchy nutty rim on your glasses this Christmas.
Using leftover nuts, such as walnuts or almonds, crush them into tiny pieces and mix with sugar for a sweet flavour. Place the rim of your glass upside down into honey or maple syrup before dipping into the nutty mix. Circle a few times to make sure each edge is covered before placing upright. You can refrigerate these to help the nuts stay in place and keep the glass cool for the eggnog or Irish cream.
