HERE’S HOW YOU SHOULD CRAFT A LIMONCELLO SPRITZ ACCORDING TO EXPERTS

Limoncello Spritz is set to be this summer season’s staple cocktail as searches for the recipe soar 50%

In the past month alone, Google* searches for ‘Limoncello Spritz recipe’ have soared over 50% and shows no sign of slowing down, putting the Limoncello Spritz cocktail at the forefront to be this year’s summer staple.

Expert Francesco Putignano, Group Bar Development Manager at leading Italian restaurant, San Carlo, is revealing how a Limoncello Spritz should really be made.

Francesco Putignanosaid: “A Limoncello Spritz is the perfect summer cocktail – light, bubbly and reminiscent of the Italian Southern coast. Served as an aperitivo (before dinner) or digestivo (after dinner), it is sweeter than an Aperol Spritz or Campari Spritz as Limoncello itself is made from vodka, lemon zest and sugar. It’s a simple liqueur but delivers maximum taste – just like the rest of the recipe!

“The key is the ingredients. We Italians pride ourselves on exceptional, fresh ingredients, prepared artfully. We always look for the finest seasonal produce to enhance our food and drink. To pick your ingredients and ensure they’re at their freshest, head down to your local market.”

Ingredients

Follow the 3-2-1 method for this. The only ingredients you’ll need are:

·       Prosecco (60ml)

·       Limoncello (50ml)

·       Soda water (30ml)

·       Fresh thyme sprig

Method

·       Fill a wine glass with ice.

·       Pour over the limoncello and top up with the prosecco and soda.

·       Stir and garnish with the thyme sprig.

Francesco added: “The whole method is super easy. I’d recommend infusing your Limoncello with fresh thyme beforehand for extra impact. Another option is to add mint and lemon as a garnish.”

Francesco advises that Limoncello can also be enjoyed as a shot or straight over ice too. Francesco also recommends keeping your bottle in the freezer for a longer life.
