Aloe Vera is the latest TikTok beauty trend for skin – is it worth the hype?

With over 13 million views on TikTok, #aloeverajuice is the latest digital-led health trend that’s being touted as a must-try ingredient for ultimate healthy skin. Google trends agrees, with searches for ‘aloe vera benefits’ up by 130% in the past 30 days alone.

But according to the experts, is it worth the hype? Here, Dr Miriam Adebibe, cosmetic and wellness doctor, and co-founder of London skin clinic Victor & Garth shares her advice.

Dr Miriam says:

When it comes to skin, aloe vera is an amazing natural product for skin that has been used for years. The gel in the leaf can be used straight away and put directly on injuries but it’s not just a gel, it has so much good in it including Vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene, Vitamin C and Vitamin E! I’m constantly telling patient’s to use these religiously, as they are the most important antioxidants for the skin. Plus, not only does aloe vera contain anti-inflammatories, it also contains several chemicals that are antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral, so it’s a multi-tasker for dermatological conditions where inflammation is a key component, such as acne, eczema, and dermatitis.

To use, ideally you want products that contain the gel as it’s incredibly moisturising and helps to seal in all the goodness within the skin. If you have an injury or lesion, it’s good for ad hoc use but it’s also great when used within a repair product such as a nighttime moisturiser, serum or mask that remains on your skin to work overnight.”
