Baby Botox: Should You Start Botox When You’re Young?

Should You Start Botox When You’re Young?

Searches for ‘baby’ Botox have risen by a huge 475% in the past month on Google, as people seek preventative treatment for wrinkles.

As the skincare industry continues to boom, more and more people are searching for the answer to anti-aging. Preventative ‘baby’ Botox is the newest trending option for those looking to maintain a youthful appearance, with people vouching for it all over social media.

Unlike traditional Botox, which aims to get rid of existing wrinkles, preventative Botox is aimed at stopping those lines from forming in the first place. But what exactly is it, and how does it work?

With that in mind, Dr. Akis Ntonos, seasoned aesthetics injector and partner with Certainly Health, has provided his insight into preventative Botox, answering all your burning questions.

What is preventative Botox?

Botox is a widely used treatment to diminish signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines. Most people get Botox once these signs have already appeared; however, preventive Botox aims to beat the formation of wrinkles.

By relaxing or weakening the facial muscles that cause wrinkles, preventive Botox can help to slow down the development of these lines. As is the case with all Botox treatments, the effects of preventive Botox are not permanent, and regular sessions are necessary to see results that last over time.

At what age should you start preventative Botox?

Preventive Botox may not be necessary for everyone, particularly for anyone in their early 20s or younger. At this age, skin is usually still resilient and capable of recovering quickly from aging factors.

A good skincare routine with sun protection can work just as well to prevent visible aging of the skin at this age.

There’s no definitive answer on when to start preventive Botox, as it varies from person to person. Generally, it’s most effective to begin when the first signs of fine lines start to appear.

However, this can vary, especially for individuals with highly expressive faces or those with sun-damaged skin.

Is it expensive?

While it’s fine to compare prices, it’s crucial to prioritize quality over anything else. Be cautious of treatments that seem unusually cheap, and thoroughly research each provider.

The cost of Botox is mainly influenced by factors including the location of the treatment, the experience of the practitioner, and the amount of Botox needed for the procedure.

To maintain the visible effects of your Botox, you’ll likely need to repeat the treatment every three to six months. So before you start your treatment, you should consider whether this ongoing expense is affordable.

Botox typically ranges from $180 to $750 per treatment area per session and usually has an average cost of around $300 per treatment area. Preventative Botox may require fewer units, however, as the optimal time to receive it is before wrinkles become visible.

Does preventative botox deter wrinkles better than normal Botox?

Theoretically, limiting movements such as smiling, frowning and squinting could help prevent these wrinkles from developing in the first place.

Some dermatologists suggest that starting Botox injections when faint lines first appear may help reduce visible signs of aging. Additionally, some experts believe that preventive Botox could potentially reduce the need for frequent treatments in the future.

While there isn’t intensive research into whether preventative Botox is more effective at creating a youthful appearance, it can make the aging process less visible and prevent deep lines and wrinkles.

Although preventative Botox can be effective for some people in delaying the appearance of wrinkles, its success will vary from person to person.
