8 Tips for Hosting the Ultimate Summer Party

hosting a party

Summer is the perfect season for throwing an unforgettable outdoor party. Whether you have a spacious garden, a cosy outdoor space, or a stylish patio, Summer house expert Sam Jenkinson for garden building specialists Tiger shares his 8 tips to help you host the ultimate summer party.

1. Create a comfortable and inviting space with pergolas

Pergolas provide shade and structure, making your outdoor space feel like an extension of your home. Decorate with string lights, hanging plants, and outdoor curtains to create a cosy and inviting atmosphere. Pergolas are perfect for setting up seating areas where guests can relax and mingle.

2. Entertain with a stylish garden bar

A garden bar is a must-have for any summer party. Stock it with a variety of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and don’t forget the garnishes. Add a few bar stools and some lively music, and you’ll have a popular spot for guests to gather and socialise.

3. Light up the night with outdoor lighting

Good lighting is key to creating a magical evening atmosphere. Use a mix of string lights, lanterns, and solar-powered garden lights to illuminate pathways, seating areas, and key features like pergolas and garden bars. This not only sets the mood but also ensures the party can keep going as the sun sets.

4. Keep cool with shade solutions

In addition to pergolas, consider using umbrellas, shade sails, or even a pop-up gazebo to provide ample shade for your guests. This will make your outdoor space more comfortable, especially during the hottest parts of the day.

Investing in a pergola with a louvered retractable roof can also be an excellent option, as it allows you to adjust the amount of sunlight and ventilation, creating a versatile and stylish solution for any weather condition.

5. Cook up a feast

A successful summer party isn’t complete without a spread of food. Consider setting up a buffet or BBQ station in a shaded area. Offer a variety of options to cater to all tastes, including grilled meats, fresh salads, vegetarian dishes, and refreshing fruit platters. Snacks and finger foods are perfect so guests can easily grab something to eat while mingling.

6. Utilise garden buildings for versatile party zones

Garden buildings can be transformed into various functional spaces for your party. Use one as a lounge area, a game room, or even a quiet retreat for guests who need a break from the festivities. Decorate to match your party theme for added flair.

Summer houses and log cabins are perfect for creating relaxed areas for guests to retreat from the sun or they can serve as a charming bar area, food station, or cosy nook for conversation. Furnish them with comfortable chairs, light linens, fairy lights and tropical plans to complete the look.

7. Offer fun activities and games

Keep your guests entertained with a variety of outdoor games and activities. Set up lawn games like cornhole or giant Jenga. If you have the space, consider a DIY slip ‘n slide or a paddling pool which will help cool down guests!

8. Provide plenty of seating and tables

Ensure there is enough seating and table space for everyone. Mix and match seating options like benches, lounge chairs, and picnic blankets. Use garden buildings as additional seating areas or dining spaces to accommodate all your guests comfortably.
