5 Romantic Places to Visit in Indonesia

Indonesia is an archipelagic country home to more than 13 thousand islands. With so many islands to choose from, deciding where to go can be daunting.

For couples going on a honeymoon or romantic escape, you’ll find many great places to visit in Indonesia. These places offer romantic activities for couples, from candlelit dinners by the seaside to snorkelling adventures and luxury spas at five-star resorts.

So, here are some of the most romantic places to visit in Indonesia.

Bali

Bali tops the list of romantic places to visit in Indonesia. It is also considered as one of the most exciting summer destinations, according to Exotic Voyages. No other destination in Indonesia can give the serenity and solitude that couples seek than the majestic island of Bali. If you want to enjoy your honeymoon moments amidst the lap of nature, go on a day trip to Ubud, famous for its breathtaking rice terraces and quaint ambience.

The highlands of Ubud offer an enchanting retreat for couples without going too far from the bustling areas of Bali. Go on a hike in the Tegalalang Rice Terraces, visit the Sacred Monkey Forest, or, if you’re brave enough, hop on the Bali Swing! While in Bali, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take up water sports. You can go snorkelling or scuba diving. Better yet, go surfing! Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, taking up adventures on the shores of Bali is guaranteed to spark romance.

After a day of fun activities, treat yourselves to a romantic dinner for two. Head to Jimbaran Beach, where you’ll find a range of candlelit restaurants overlooking the ocean. Another spot to enjoy romantic dinners in Bali is in Ubud Valley, where you can enjoy intimate dinner under the stars with flickering candles to ignite romance.

Komodo National Park

For couples who love the wildlife, visit Komodo Island. While it’s more famous for being home to the Komodo dragons, the world’s biggest monitor lizards, the island is also home to high-quality dive sites and underwater life. A short boat ride will take you to Pink Beach, a gorgeous beach with distinct pink colour.

Komodo Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its breathtaking landscapes and unique wildlife, offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Due to its uniqueness, the island has been considered one of the Seven New Wonders of Nature. While the Komodo dragons are the island’s main attraction, many other features make this island unique. Aside from the pink beach, it has an interesting diversity of flora and fauna. There are also incredible spots within the park to enjoy snorkelling and diving, giving you plenty of opportunities to discover the island’s rich marine life.

There are many ways to get to Komodo Island. Since it’s a popular destination in Indonesia, you’ll find plenty of amazing tour operators that can arrange a trip to the island. But first, you’ll have to go to the main town of Labuan Bajo. To get here, you can take direct flights from Indonesia’s main cities, such as Bali, Lombok, and Jakarta.

Anambas Archipelago

Dubbed by CNN as “Asia’s Best Tropical Island” in 2013, the Anambas Islands are a true paradise. Located in the South China Sea, the islands face the open sea providing panoramic ocean views. The archipelago is also home to lush green islands with azure lagoons.

Home to excellent diving spots, the Anambas Archipelago is a haven for keen divers. You’ll be amazed at the colourful marine life as you go underwater. On land, you’ll find rows of coconut trees covering white sand beaches, where some turtles have found their habitat. One of the most romantic things for couples is to visit the many stunning lagoons, especially on the islands of Pulau Bawah, Pantai Selat Rangsang, and Pantai Pulau Penjalin, where different islands jut out from the sea out of nowhere. During low tide, the islands are connected by sands, creating an enchanting inland sea.

The gorgeous lagoons of the Anambas archipelago are surrounded by white sand and home to colourful corals. All islands have fine white sand beaches that glitter and become even more beautiful when the lagoons are filled with aquamarine water, through which one can discover strange corals and schools of fishes playing in the clear water.

Lombok

Located close to Bali, Lombok is another beautiful island in Indonesia that exudes a romantic vibe. In fact, it can rival Bali in terms of sights and sounds, particularly the Gili Islands, a popular spot for diving and snorkelling, and only an hour away from a speed boat.

Adventurous couples should scale Mount Rinjani. But summiting the peak is not for the faint-hearted. If you’re new to trekking, opt for an easy hike around the crater rim. It may be a short hike, but the views are astoundingly stunning! Check out Lombok’s other natural attractions, such as the Benang Kelambu Waterfall, surrounded by views that look like scenes from Jurassic Park.

Rekindle romance by going on a cruise to explore nearby islands while taking up guided snorkelling and other water sports. You can also go for a romantic sunset dinner followed by a relaxing couple’s spa and massage.

Raja Ampat

If you’re looking for an exotic tropical paradise for your next romantic getaway, head to Raja Ampat. It’s a stunning archipelago famous for its gorgeous beaches, colourful reefs, and rich diversity of marine life.

To make the most of your tropical marine adventure in Raja Ampat, head to Waisai, home to several diving spots and a gorgeous beach called Waiwo. Make sure you check out the smaller islands scattered all over Raja Ampat, such as the Pianemo Island, which has a viewing deck on a hilltop and offers unobstructed views of the vast ocean sea and the islands. The breathtaking scenery is enough reason to come here. But if you’re adventurous enough, go cliff jumping into the turquoise lagoon surrounding the small islands. Go swimming in the crystal-clear water and enjoy other exciting water activities.

Whether a beginner or pro, taking a diving lesson in Raja Ampat is a must! Since diving is a popular activity here, you’ll find many excellent diving schools in the archipelago. Taking up a diving course is a great opportunity to discover the magnificent underwater landscapes that Raja Ampat is known for.
