Top cruise packing tips by Iglu Cruise

1. Try not to overpack

Many of us overpack when we go away and don’t wear most of the clothing we bring in our suitcases. A great tip is to lay out everything you want to bring on your cruise, and then cut this down by 30%. This way, you’re only packing your essentials and not overpacking. Plus, you’ll have some room to buy some bits while you’re on your holiday to bring home in your suitcase.

2. Pack a reusable water bottle

More and more cruise lines are accommodating passengers by adding water fountains around the cruise ship. Not only is this better for the environment, but it means you can refill your water bottle throughout the day and stay hydrated. You’ll be able to take this off the ship during your stops, meaning you won’t need to keep buying water in plastic bottles.

3. Research your cruise line dress codes

Different cruise lines have different dress codes, so it’s important to do your research before you embark on your cruise. Some lines may require guests to dress more formally than others, especially when dining in the evening. Other cruise lines are more casual, but can still have certain rules to follow. Check your cruise line website to get some more information on what to wear once onboard.

4. Bring warm clothing

Even if you’re going on a summer cruise to warmer destinations, make sure to pack some warm clothing. Temperatures can drop in the evening and at night so you’ll need some clothing to keep you comfortable. Whilst sailing on a cruise from one destination to the next there can also sometimes be a breeze, so many sure to pack some suitable items and be prepared for any weather.

5. Pack practical footwear

You’ll most likely be doing a lot of walking when you stop off at each destination, so make sure to bring some comfortable footwear for getting around. You’ll probably also want some comfortable footwear to move around the ship, particularly the pool area, so some sliders or flip-flops should be added to your suitcase. Finally, bring some evening formal shoes if you’re planning on going anywhere fancy for a celebration or fine dining.
