According to the Hilton’s 2025 trends report, 34% of UK travellers are making 2025 their year for a solo adventure. With social media feeds saturated with #honeymoon and #babymoon posts, a new travel trend is emerging: the ‘Me-Moon’.
The birth of the ‘Me-Moon’ sees 23% of UK travellers seeking to embrace their own ‘main character energy’ in 2025, unafraid to break away from the crowd.
The Hilton’s research, on travel trends for 2025, also revealed that 21% of solo travellers are looking to make new friends, while 12% are open to finding romance on their journey. This social aspect adds another layer to the me-moon experience, combining self-reflection with meaningful connections.
As we look ahead to 2025, the me-moon phenomenon is set to redefine how we approach solo travel and self-care.
The solo travel boom: who and why?
Solo travel has become increasingly popular across various demographics, but it’s particularly resonating with millennials and Gen Z. These generations value experiences over possessions and see solo travel as an opportunity for personal growth and self-care.
According to a 2023 survey by Statista, the main motivation to travel solo in 2023 was the willingness to see the world and not to wait for others. This was closely followed by travellers (53%) opting for solo travel experiences to embrace the opportunity to do what they want, when they want.
Gary Clark, an adventure travel expert and Academy Director of SIA Austria, a gap year ski instructor course operator offers his insight: “Solo travel, especially me-moons, appeals to those seeking to reinvent themselves, feel empowered and meet likeminded others.
“It’s not just about seeing new places; it’s about challenging yourself, gaining confidence, and returning home with a fresh perspective.”
