Your summer holidays are just around the corner. You suddenly come to the realisation that now’s the time, after months inside, to start crash dieting and working out five days a week so you can look bikini-ready.

The potential side effects associated with extreme dieting, however, are not just dangerous but also ineffective as outlined by ‘Smart Food’ innovators yfood.


A shocking 73% of the nation said in a recent survey they had followed a crash diet before their recent vacation, or plan to start one. Rather than attempting to lose as much weight as you can in the shortest amount of time, setting smart goals and making small tweaks to your diet will help you feel the healthiest you’ve ever been.

For this reason, nutrition experts yfood have highlighted below the importance of setting smart eating goals without the need to diet.

Try not to skip meals:

“Not only will you be lethargic throughout the day but the danger of skipping meals is that it’s will likely trigger your to gorge unhealthily. We found this was a pattern common in Brits with a shocking 19% saying they don’t eat throughout the day but instead, increase their calorie intake at dinner.”


Try eating out less often: 

“In our latest research, we found 29% of Brits buy more ready-made meals during the week because they haven’t got time to cook from scratch. Why not make some time during the weekend where you spend an hour or so planning your meals for the week and preparing ingredients?”

Swap the unhealthy snacks for healthier alternatives: 

“Since working from home, we have become a society of snackers. In fact, we found that 37% of the nation agrees that since they started working from home, they snack more on easy and unhealthy foods. There are plenty of more nutritious snacks that can keep you fulled for longer. Swap the chocolate or biscuits for a  a piece of fruit (banana, apple, orange) or a handful of nuts (almonds, walnuts) when you’re feeling peckish.”

Make healthier drink choices: 

“It’s easy to overlook, but choosing healthier drinks is a key part of getting a balanced diet. The Eatwell Guide says we should drink 6 to 8 cups or glasses of fluid a day. Water, lower-fat milk and sugar-free drinks, including tea and coffee, all count.”
