Wimbledon’s Most Iconic Tennis Hairstyles Ranked

The Most Iconic Wimbledon Tennis Hairstyles of All Time

Wimbledon may be synonymous with crisp whites, strawberries and cream and Centre Court showdowns, but this year it’s the hairstyles turning just as many heads.

To celebrate the tournament, Del Monte swapped fresh fruit for fresh cuts, inviting celebrity stylist to the stars Tobias Bell, known as the Rockstar Stylist, to surprise fans waiting in Wimbledon’s famous queue with complimentary tennis-inspired hair transformations.

From Anna Kournikova’s signature plait and Pat Cash’s feathered mullet to playful tennis ball buzz cuts and Björn Borg-inspired flowing locks, the makeovers proved that some of tennis’s most memorable looks are just as iconic as the matches themselves.

“Tennis has produced some of the most recognisable hairstyles in sport, and it’s been brilliant to partner with Del Monte to bring them back to life for fans joining the queue on opening day,” says Tobias.

The playful activation is a reminder that tennis has long been a source of beauty inspiration. Whether it’s Serena Williams’ ever-evolving on-court looks, John McEnroe’s trademark curls and headband or Roger Federer’s polished ponytail era, some of the sport’s most memorable hairstyles have become as recognisable as the players themselves.

That nostalgia is reflected in new research, which crowned Björn Borg’s signature headband and flowing locks Britain’s most iconic tennis hairstyle. John McEnroe, Serena Williams, Roger Federer and Pat Cash rounded out the nation’s top five.

The survey also found that Wimbledon inspires more than just sporting passion. More than three-quarters (78%) of Brits said they’d queue for up to 12 hours to experience the Championships, while 40% would happily wear all white for an entire week. One in five (20%) even admitted they’d change their hairstyle for the chance to attend.

Thierry Montange, Marketing Director UK at Del Monte, said:

“At Del Monte, freshness is at the heart of everything we do, so bringing ‘Fresh Cuts’ to tennis fans felt like the perfect way to put a playful twist on one of the country’s most iconic summer traditions.”

Whether you’re reaching for a headband, embracing a sleek braid or simply looking for a fresh summer style, Wimbledon proves that great hair inspiration can come from the most unexpected places. After all, some tennis looks never go out of fashion, they just keep serving.
