Below, Jessica Rea Long, creative stylist at M&S, shares six tips for bringing this mellow brown into your wardrobe.
Pantone have crowned their much-anticipated Colour of the Year 2025, Mocha Mousse. Jessica Rea Long, creative stylist at M&S, explains how to style this mellow brown:
“This warm, rich hue is effortless sophistication personified. While browns are often perceived as a bit forgettable, this soft medium brown with a hint of nude-pink is more aspirational and luxe.
“It’s an incredibly versatile colour which will integrate your wardrobe easily. Think of it like a softer neutral base. Like black, it pairs effortlessly with other shades. It’s the perfect go-to if timeless style is your wardrobe goal.”
Think ‘quiet luxury’
“The ‘quiet luxury’ trend calls for a tighter more muted palette. Alongside black, navy, cream, white and camel, Mocha Mousse will create the perfect base for your outfits. If you’re craving a little extra colour, you can add accents in forest green, burgundy or pillar-box red.”
Layer up in knitwear
“The warmth of this hue also marries beautifully with the texture of knitwear. To double down on the quiet luxury aesthetic, opt for natural wool or cashmere blends, ribbed textures and refined finishing touches such as button detailing. Pair simply with white jeans for timeless style.”
Pair it with chocolate brown
“Chocolate brown is another trend colour that we expect to see continue beyond 2024 into 2025. And the good news is Mocha Mousse pairs wonderfully with this deeper brown. So, pull out any items you have in this colour.”
Wear it on your nails
“If you’re looking for a super low commitment way to test drive this colour, why not paint your nails with it? Invest in a creamy brown nail polish of your choice.”
Choose suede and leather accessories
“Suede and leather suit this shade of brown perfectly and will smarten up almost any outfit. Look out for oversized bags, ballet flats and slingback shoes in these materials this season.”
Add gold jewellery
“When it comes to jewellery, enhance the soft, earthy hue of Mocha Mousse with a touch of chunky gold-coloured jewellery. The sophisticated metallic sheen of the gold adds a taste of warmth and luxury, complementing the soft brown.”
