As the Black Friday/Cyber Monday period kicks off today, Jack’s Flight Club has revealed that over 2.2 million flight hunters rushed to book flights on Travel Tuesday last year, marking it as the busiest day for flight bookings during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday period. However, their findings suggest that the Wednesday following Travel Tuesday, was the second-busiest day to book flights, ahead of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Wednesday, the 23rd of November last year, which isn’t usually considered a part of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday period, beat out both Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the number of people looking to book flights, coming second only to Travel Tuesday.

Their research, which analysed website traffic on key dates throughout the Black Friday/Cyber Monday period across eight of the UK’s biggest airline and flight-booking sites, also found that Cyber Monday, characterised as the day when people can get the best deals shopping online, was the least popular day for shoppers to buy their flights. Thursday, November 24th (the US holiday of Thanksgiving) and the day before Black Friday, even narrowly beat Cyber Monday for the day to book your holidays.

A few of the companies examined by Jack’s Flight Club found a peak in traffic on Wednesday, November 30th, including airline giant EasyJet, with over 50,000 people flooding over to the site, 10,000 more than the day before, Travel Tuesday and over 25,000 more than Black Friday.

Katy Maclure, the editor of The Detour, a weekly newsletter from Jack’s Flight Club, comments, “Travel Tuesday has long been celebrated as the ideal day for booking holiday getaways, but our recent findings suggest the Wednesday following Travel Tuesday may be the next best day to search for travel deals.

“We encourage travellers to keep an eye on this emerging trend to make the most of their travel planning, however staying vigilant throughout the whole Black Friday/Cyber Monday period is key. From our findings, we see a surge of people looking for flights from the Thursday before Black Friday through to the following Wednesday.”
