As we emerge from the winter solstice and look to longer evenings, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a romantic sunset with loved ones. This Valentine’s Day, 14 February, you can catch what’s sure to be a beautiful winter sunset at 5:13pm. Romantic by nature, this spectacle is a great way to celebrate your love, simply head out in a car, campervan or even on foot with plenty of layers and a tasty picnic to enjoy dusk with your other half.

For the best view, pull up a pew on top of the cliffs or on the bay itself – accessible from the carpark by following a scenic twenty-minute pathway.

For spectacular views of the historic city of Edinburgh at sunset, hike up to Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano in Holyrood Park. The summit offers stunning views of both the twinkling lights of the city and the dramatic landscapes that surround it, making it a perfect spot to watch the sun dip with your loved one.

The local high street has wine shops and bakeries aplenty, so grab some produce and pitch up on the grassy hill with a picnic blanket and warm coats ready to enjoy the romantic atmosphere as the day comes to an end.
