This means that you can escape from your everyday routine and make wonderful memories by travelling to the islands that the Greeks themselves seek to visit.

1. Santorini – 112,700 monthly searches on Google
Santorini is officially the most popular island in Greece according to the Greek people themselves. The beautiful volcanic Aegean Island and its unique geology result in some of the most incredible natural landscapes! It is famous for the breathtaking sunsets it generously offers, the black sand beaches with crystal clear waters and the picturesque villages perched on the hilltops. Santorini has a unique atmosphere that is hard to describe and is waiting for you to discover it.
2. Lefkada – 73,600 monthly searches on Google
The second place belongs to Lefkada! It is an island located in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece. Lefkada is known for its beautiful golden beaches with crystal clear waters such as Egremni, Porto Katsiki, Kathisma and Agios Nikitas. Visitors can also explore the island’s mountain villages and enjoy cycling, hiking and other outdoor activities. It is easily accessible by car as it is connected to mainland Greece by a bridge. This makes it easier for visitors to explore the island and its plethora of attractions.
3. Corfu – 73,600 monthly searches on Google
Another island of the Ionian Sea is in third place, and it is none other than Corfu! The island boasts a diverse landscape, from its pristine beaches to steep mountains and lush forests. Corfu has a rich history reflected in its architecture and museums and it is worth noting that it has been inhabited since ancient times and has been influenced by various cultures including the Greeks, Romans, Venetians and the British. Visitors can taste traditional Greek cuisine, enjoy local festivals, and experience the island’s vibrant nightlife.
4. Zakynthos – 67,600 monthly searches on Google
The island with the most famous beach Navagio is in fourth place and it is, of course, Zakynthos! Also an island in the Ionian Sea, with deep blue waters and sandy beaches, it is ideal for carefree holidays at any time of the year. Beyond Navagio, another famous beach is Gerakas, which is a protected nesting area for loggerhead sea turtles. The Blue Caves, located on the northwest coast of the island, is a sight not to be missed! Zakynthos is easily accessible by ferry from mainland Greece and other nearby islands, but also by plane as there are flights from several major European cities.
5. Mykonos – 67,600 monthly searches on Google
Mykonos secures its place as the fifth most popular island in Greece this year. This island is known for its vibrant nightlife with many clubs, bars and restaurants staying open until late at night. It also has many beautiful beaches of course, from secluded coves to busy party places with the most famous being Paradise Beach, Super Paradise Beach and Psarou Beach. Mykonos is renowned for its traditional architecture with its whitewashed houses and colourful doors. Mykonos Town, also called “Chora”, with its picturesque alleys and squares, is perfect for exploration.

Methodology:
The study was conducted by Holidu, first gathering a list of all islands in Greece and then checking the average monthly Google Search Volume for “island name” both in Greek and English by people in Greece in the last 12 months. The results were then combined to show the average amount of monthly searches in both languages. In situations where the total number of searches resulted in a tie, an extra related Greek keyword was used to calculate a clear winner.
