Book your cruise early to get the best deals
Booking early allows you to access early bird deals, which not only saves you money, but offers you a wider choice of cabin types and cabin positions on the ship. You can also take advantage of limited-time promotions like onboard credit, free excursions, or drink packages.
Research the ship and itinerary
By researching the ship’s amenities (for example, pools, restaurants and theatres), you can better plan how to enjoy your time onboard. Every ship is different and offers something for everyone, so through research (or by speaking with a specialist travel agency like Planet Cruise) you can find the type of ship that best suits your needs and interests. Additionally, researching port stops allows you to decide whether to explore on your own or book ship-organised excursions.
Join a cruise line’s loyalty programme
Cruise line loyalty programs offer benefits like room upgrades, priority boarding and early access to sales and discounts on future cruises, making it worthwhile for repeat cruisers. Loyalty points and rewards can always be claimed when booking through your travel agency.
Use onboard credit wisely
Onboard credit can be used towards additional experiences such as speciality dining, spa treatments, or shore excursions. They can also be used to purchase beverage packages or individual drinks if alcohol isn’t included. Beverage packages offer better value if you intend to drink every day, otherwise purchasing individual drinks as you go can be a better way to spend your money. Pack suitably for a cruise
One of the great things about cruising is that there is no baggage limit! So pack as much (or as little) as you like. It can get colder and windier when you are at sea, so a light jacket is useful. For cooler destinations, ensure you bring a warmer coat so you can enjoy the views from the ship in comfort. Packing your swimsuit in your hand luggage means you can start enjoying the pool as soon as you board, instead of waiting for your bags to arrive at your cabin.
Some cruises have at least one optional formal night, so check beforehand and pack appropriately if you want to eat in the main restaurants on those nights.

Book speciality dining in advance
Try speciality restaurants for a unique experience! We recommend booking in advance for the best availability, either ahead of your getaway (if possible) or on the first day of your cruise. Alternatively, why not try room service, which can offer a private dining option with a view. When booking your dining, also consider whether you will want to see the show either beforehand or after, as some ships may only have one performance a night so you won’t want to miss it!
Embarkation day is the ideal time to explore the ship
You can get familiar with the layout, find quieter areas, and spot hidden gems like bars or lounges before the crowds settle in. Early morning is also a beautiful time to experience the ship when it is quiet and catching the best views of your new destination ahead of the day.
