Autumn’s newest fashion trend is sweeping its way into the world of interiors signalling the start of cosy season in our homes.

Vogue editors have marked it as an evolution of last year’s trending red and now burgundy is making its way into the bedroom as cabernetcore has its moment.

Experts at luxury bed brand Comodo Living reveal that ‘burgundy bedroom ideas’ have seen a 40% increase in searches in the past 90 days, while ‘moody purple bedroom’ has seen a staggering 350% increase this year on Pinterest.

According to Google Trends searches for the colour maroon also hit a five year high this week!

So how can you embrace fashion’s newest “it colour” in the bedroom?

Alex Francis at Comodo Living shares his tips.

“The rich deep hues of burgundy lend themselves really well to creating that cosy, intimate atmosphere you want in your bedroom which will help you to wind down.”

Mix with neutral tones

“Burgundy pairs really well with a variety of colours including cream, grey and neutral tones like camel. If you fancy adding a merlot shade to your bedroom but want to play it safe then start by incorporating some burgundy toned throw cushions into your bedscape. Play with different textures like faux fur, knits and pom poms for a playful edge.”

Accent wall

“I wouldn’t recommend colour drenching your bedroom in burgundy unless your space is particularly bright and open. You want to lean into the richness of the colour without creating an oppressive space. Opt for an accent wall in a deep oxblood or mulberry behind your headboard to bring the space together.”

Burgundy headboards

“Burgundy is a more traditional colour. With this in mind I’d recommend leaning into the heritage feel with a chesterfield bed in a plush dirty rose velvet for a regal feel. If you’re looking for a more contemporary aesthetic then a sleek bed frame with curved details can help to add a modern touch.”

Accent accessories

“You can add burgundy into your bedroom with easy to change accessories like curtains or rugs for an accent colour. One of the colour combinations of the season is burgundy and powder blue so opt for soft furnishings that incorporate this scheme to stay on trend.”
