New data from food box delivery service reveals a 5,000% surge in online searches for “Diwali party food” and “Indian food” over the last 30 days as families prepare for the Festival of Lights on Monday, October 20.
HelloFresh’s Senior Recipe Development Manager, Mimi Morley, is sharing expert predictions and easy-to-make recipes for the most sought-after festive dishes, from classic curries to innovative vegetarian street food.

The data indicates a clear trend toward Indian comfort classics, with searches for “Butter Chicken”, “Tikka Masala”, and “Chicken Balti” also spiking by over 5,000%. This suggests celebrants are prioritising familiar favourites for their Diwali parties.
Mimi Morley, Senior Recipe Development Manager at HelloFresh, said, “Diwali is such a beautiful celebration. The lights and fireworks are complemented by some incredible flavoursome food.
“Our data confirms that Diwali is now a major culinary moment in the UK. As a festival traditionally centred around vegetarian dishes, we’re seeing growing interest in meat-free recipes. Options like Cheesy Curried Aloo Matar Parcel and Veggie Meatball Rogan Josh are perfect. We’ve developed a range of simple Indian recipes that help home cooks embrace those incredible festive flavours without spending all day in the kitchen.”
