Close your curtains and blinds

A quick and simple way to keep the heat out is to block out the sunlight. Drawing your curtains and closing your blinds will stop the sun from getting in and warming up the rooms in your house.

Shut the door

It’s common to keep your door open during the summertime in the hopes of letting a breeze in, but it’s actually making your house even hotter. Keeping the doors closed will prevent your house from filling with hot air and overheating. Open the doors once the sun has stopped shining to allow fresh air in.

Change the lightbulbs

Switch your light bulbs to LED bulbs. They are four to five times more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs, whilst still producing a great level of brightness and cooling your home.

Switch off your appliances

Your appliances generate heat, further adding to the temperature of your home. Make sure to turn off your lights if you’re not in the room, reduce the amount you use your oven and use your hairdryer less and allow your hair to air dry.

Keep your interiors colours light

If you feel your home needs a lick of paint, switching up your interior colours to a lighter shade could be the key to a cooler home. Light reflecting colours avoid heat absorption, meaning your house will be cooler if your walls are lighter colours such as creams, greys and whites.”
