Dordogne: On the back of the recent success of their first wine and truffle experience, Dordogne Vineyard Tours have announced a series of gourmet breaks for the coming year.

Enjoy a foodie escape to the Dordogne to explore the region’s rich culinary heritage including undiscovered Bergerac wines, as well as the rarest of gastronomic delights, ’The Black Diamond’ – the elusive Winter Perigord Truffle.

Two night gourmet break to the Dordogne

Created by Dordogne Vineyard Tours, this two-night escape for just six guests includes two nights’ accommodation at a 4-star boutique hotel, a truffle hunt with a truffle farmer, a visit to the Sainte Alvère truffle market and two wine tours and tastings. The dates are 11th-13th December 2022.  8th-10th January 2023.  22nd-24th January 2023. 5th-7th February 2023.

Priced at £825 per person (£125 single occupancy supplement), the experience also includes a three-course gourmet dinner, five-course truffle-themed dinner, a truffle brunch, lunch, and both breakfasts. Airport or station transfers from Bergerac or Bordeaux, along with transport to and from activities are also included.

Highlights of the trip include meeting truffle farmer Xavier and his loyal Romagnolo Lagotto dog to search for truffles in his private oak orchard. A visit to the celebrated truffle market in the medieval village of Sainte Alvère will allow guests to learn how truffles are graded prior to trade. The group will also have the opportunity to meet several winemakers, including an organic winemaker and plenty of wine tastings along the way.

Guests will have time to browse the truffle market and enjoy the atmosphere of the charming village of Sainte Alvère. Afterward, a truffle omelette brunch at the bustling local café is the perfect fuel for an afternoon at Xavier’s truffle plantation. Xavier and his dog, Rigo will walk the group through the orchard to talk terroir and cultivation where hopefully the guests will strike black gold. Back at Xavier’s farmhouse, there’ll be time to learn how best to store and prepare the truffle.

Accommodation will be at Château les Merles, an elegant yet informal 17th-century chateau located amongst vineyards and orchards.
