Marking the next steps in the city’s cultural education, 2022 welcomes a number of new museums including the eagerly awaited Heidi Horten Collection, set to open in spring. Transformed from a 19th century place to a state-of-the art construction, the building housing this private collection will bring together masterpieces of works by Gustav Klimpt, Egon Schiele, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. In addition, the sister to the famed Upper Belvedere palace reopened in January 2022, with the blockbuster exhibition, ‘Dalí – Freud. An Obsession’. On display from 28 January to 5 May at the Lower Belvedere Museum, this groundbreaking exhibition will combine reality with imagination, exploring the conscious and subconscious influences of Freud’s psychoanalysis theories and ‘Interpretation of Dreams’, on Dali’s artworks. On February 18 Albertina will open ‘Edvard Munch. In Dialogue’ where over 60 works of the Norwegian painter will be juxtaposed with works by seven greats of the 20th century.
