“While many people are eager to get into the holiday spirit and start decorating as soon as the stores start selling Christmas decorations, I strongly advise waiting for the optimal moment to get the most from your Christmas tree and make everyone in the family happy,” says Halliday.

It’s important to give each holiday its due time and attention, and jumping straight from Thanksgiving to Christmas can feel rushed and detract from its unique significance. 

That’s why, according to Andy, “Waiting until after Thanksgiving or the first weekend of December to put up your Christmas tree is the best time for this time-honoured tradition. It allows you to fully celebrate and enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday before shifting your focus to Christmas.” 

Andy adds, “Waiting until after Thanksgiving gives you the opportunity to fully clean up and put away your fall and Thanksgiving decorations, making space for your Christmas tree and other holiday decorations.”

Christmas trees are a big part of the holiday décor, and many families have their own traditions and preferences regarding the type of tree they prefer. “Before deciding, it’s best to thoroughly research and compare different types of trees, such as real versus artificial, their characteristics, and care requirements,” recommends Andy. 

Real Christmas trees need to be correctly cared for to maintain their freshness, and safe disposal should be considered to ensure they don’t contribute to landfills. Waiting until after Thanksgiving aligns with a more sustainable approach to Christmas tree selection and care.

“Getting the whole family together to put up the Christmas tree is a beloved tradition for many, and rushing through it right after Thanksgiving can take away from this special moment,” says Andy. “If you wait a little longer, you have more time to plan and prepare, and everyone can be fully present and excited for the moment, making for a more meaningful and memorable experience.”
