From new luxury hotel openings to the launch of flight routes further connecting the UK to Montenegro, travellers should be sure to add the beautiful Balkan destination to their bucket-list in the new year.

New openings in 2023

Gondola Lift

Summer saw the launch of an innovative gondola lift connecting the coastal town of Kotor to the Lovcen national park creating easy accessibility to Montenegro’s most beautiful destinations. 

Relax and rejuvenate at Mamula Island Hotel

Newly opened, Mamula Island Hotel is located in Montenegro’s Boka Bay – a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Adriatic Sea. A once-in-a-lifetime stay, Mamula Island is a carefully restored 19th century fort and travellers can choose to relax and rejuvenate in one of the panoramic suites following a treatment in the hotel spa which helps hotel guests connect with self and the surrounding shore.

Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay Resort

This year, Hyatt made a debut In Montenegro with the opening of Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay Resort and offers a premium experience in Montenegro’s stunning Kotor Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site. 

Swissôtel Kolašin
The first luxury hotel on the ski resort in Montenegro, Swissôtel resort Kolašin, will welcome its first guests by the end of the year. Swissôtel resort is located in the K16 mountain resort on the Kolašin 1600 ski resort. The four-star hotel complex positioned in the magnificent Bjelasica mountain massif is the perfect destination for lovers of winter sports and summer holidays on the mountain. The resort will strongly position Kolašin on the European winter sports map. K16 resort will include 10 hotel facilities and 28 mountain villas. With the Kolašin 1450 resort, it represents the first residential mountain resort in Montenegro.

2024 openings

Jet 2 launches new flight route to Tivat

2024 will see the launch of a direct route from Birmingham Airport to Tivat Montenegro with Jet2.com and Jet2holidays – further connecting the UK to the beautiful island destination. The UK’s largest tour operator and third largest airline have responded to demand from customers and independent travel agents by adding flights and holidays to Tivat in Montenegro, with flights operating from 2nd May through to 31st October. A weekly Thursday service will operate from 2nd May, with a second weekly service (Monday) coming into operation from 1st July.  

Summer 2024 to see opening of luxury resort Rixos

French hospitality group Accor and its Spanish partner Iberostar plan to open Rixos, a five-star hotel, in Sutomore, in Southern Montenegro in summer 2024. The accommodation will see the employment of 400 people. 

Montenegro welcomes Ritz Carlton

A 120 room Ritz-Carlton Montenegro is expected to open in 2024, whilst the first phase of the Ritz Carlton Residences Montenegro is scheduled to launch in 2023, with full completion expected in 2028. The development will be situated on the western tip of the Lustica Peninsula, around 30 minutes from Tivat International airport, and around two hours from Dubrovnik International. This will be the first Ritz property in the country. 

CROWNE PLAZA Kolašin expected to open in November 2024

Located at the heart of the city centre of Kolasin, CROWNE PLAZA will offer 4-star luxury accommodation within 100 metres of the main town square. Guests can discover the town through various bars, restaurants and stores. The hotel will offer top level service including transfers, exclusive tours, rental services and high quality room service.
